What to do When Lotus Notes Crashes

Filed under Misc., Technology & Internet | Posted by Shahar Y

Lotus Notes is an integrated desktop client option for accessing business e-mail, calendars and applications on [an] IBM Lotus Domino server. The Notes client is mainly used as an email client in large organizations, so some of us have to work with it. I, personally don’t like it because it is not user friendly (see Lotus Hall of Shame) and it tends to crash a lot.

When your Lotus Notes client crashes you normally have to reboot your PC which is very annoying. Causing Lotus Notes to crash is very easy, follow the following steps (it happens on version 6, don’t know about the other versions):

  1. Copy some text from Internet Explorer.
  2. Open a new memo in Lotus Notes and paste the text into it.
  3. Boom, our work is done…

What shall be done now? Can we avoid rebooting our PC? The answer is YES!

Thanks to a little program called KillNotes (download it here),  which allows you to clean up the Windows processes that hang around when your Lotus Notes client crashes, you can start Lotus Notes again without restarting your PC. A dialog box will show you how many processes were cleaned up. Click on OK and restart your Lotus Notes client…

Thanks, that works. Saves a lot of time not having to reboot.
